Grande Dunes, Coastal Carolina Welcome Nation’s Top Young Golfers to the Beach
Now in its second year, the MyrtleBeachGolfTrips.com Intercollegiate will return to the Grande Dunes Resort Course September 7-9, attracting teams from the ACC and Big 10 to compete with tournament host Coastal Carolina University.
Sixteen teams will compete in the 54-hole event at the Roger Rulewich designed course that is widely regarded as one of South Carolina’s premier layouts.
Joining Coastal, the reigning Sun Belt Conference champions, are Appalachian State University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Campbell University, East Carolina University, Elon University, University of Maryland, Jacksonville University, Clemson University, Texas State University, High Point University, Old Dominion University, Kennesaw State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Florida Atlantic University, and Charleston Southern University.
“We are excited to start our 2025-2026 season at a familiar place and on home turf,” Coastal coach Jacob Wilner said. “We are grateful to have 15 visiting teams and committed to have all hands on deck to put on a good show”
Featuring five holes that play along the Intracoastal Waterway, Grande Dunes is an ideal venue to test the best young players in America. The course can play up to 7,600 yards long and it features some of the area’s most creative greens complexes, allowing a lot of latitude in the way the course is set up.
Grande Dunes’ fairways are among the Myrtle Beach area’s widest but collegiate players in search of birdie will have to play to the proper spots to set up scoring opportunities. The quality of the layout is complemented by the stunning waterway views, highlighted by the par-3 14th, which plays from an elevated tee box to a green buffeted by the water.
Santa Clara (Calif.) University (top photo) won the inaugural event in 2024 with a team total of 843, good for a three stroke victory of runner-up Campbell.
Three teams in the 2025 field – Coastal, Florida Gulf Coast and Elon – qualified for NCAA Regional play this spring. Clemson is expected to arrive in Myrtle Beach with a freshman heavy lineup after the nation’s seventh ranked recruiting class, a haul highlighted by Jackson Byrd, the son of 5-time PGA Tour winner Jonathan Byrd.
